Portable Underwater ROV Troubleshooting Guide ​

1. Data available but no video displayed on ground station ​

  1. Computer IP address not set to 192.168.2.1
  2. Windows Firewall blocks the application access

2. Video available but no data, "Communication Disconnected" shown on top bar ​

  1. Underwater ROV fails full startup without two startup tones
  2. Loose connection at cable reel joint
  3. Broken umbilical cable or loose port connection with surface communication box

3. Stuttering and mosaic distortion on video stream ​

  1. Strong magnetic interference from steel bars, iron blocks and other surrounding objects
  2. Tangled and knotted umbilical cable
  3. Graphics card incompatibility with ground station software (common on some Lenovo laptops)

4. Neither video nor data received on ground station ​

  1. Surface communication box powered off with no external USB power supply
  2. Loosely connected network cable and USB cable of surface communication box
  3. Poor contact of slip ring inside cable reel

5. Individual thruster fails to rotate during desktop test ​

Thruster gets blocked by entangled water plants, fishing nets and other debris underwater. Clear obstructions timely to avoid permanent motor burnout.

6. Abnormal friction noise during motor rotation on desktop test ​

The motor is designed for underwater water cooling operation. Only low-power and short-duration air testing is permitted. Slight friction sound during air operation is normal.

7. Serviceability of damaged umbilical cable ​

Prohibited for continuous use. Replace the cable immediately to prevent water ingress and equipment damage.

8. Sudden disconnection underwater: no video and data, ROV keeps moving and joystick out of control ​

  1. Unplug and reconnect all cables thoroughly
  2. Restart ground station software, reboot computer and reconnect if necessary
  3. Recover the ROV manually and power off for inspection to avoid fault deterioration

9. Undefined abnormal malfunctions ​

General solution: Remove the battery and reboot the whole ROV unit.
